Senate Report Finds Agencies Not Improving on Cyber, Recommends Changes
A new report from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee argues for changes to federal cybersecurity standards, after auditors found that multiple agencies made only “minimal improvements” over the past two years in their efforts to comply. Of the agencies reviewed, only the Department of Homeland Security employed an “effective cybersecurity regime”, while the Social Security Administration and Departments of State, Transportation, Housing & Urban Development, Agriculture, Health & Human Services, and Education each made little progress. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) plans to introduce legislation to reflect many of the report’s recommendations, including a “centrally coordinated approach” to the problem for greater accountability.
