SEC Meeting to Consider Tougher Cybersecurity Rules in Response to Russian Aggression
The Securities and Exchange Commission is meeting March 9 to consider “amendments regarding cybersecurity risk management, strategy, governance and incident disclosure.” SEC proposed new regulations in February, but those did not go far enough to satisfy cybersecurity hawks in the Senate and some former government officials, especially with new fears that Russia will respond to international sanctions by targeting the U.S. financial sector, as both a defensive measure and to inflict damage to the U.S. economy. Former Treasury officials also urge the Senate to confirm Sarah Bloom Raskin, President Biden’s nominee to fill a key position on the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
