OMB Issues Interim Rule for Banning IT Products From Federal Systems

A new rule from the Office of Management and Budget has laid out procedures and criteria for determining which technology sources should be banned from purchase by the federal government, due to threats they pose to national security. An interim final rule in the Federal Register will be open to public comment for 60 days. The Federal Acquisition Security Council, an interagency group chaired by a senior OMB official, has the power to recommend the removal or exclusion from the federal government of technology that it determines presents an unacceptable threat to critical infrastructure.
