NIST Finalizes ‘Lightweight Cryptography’ Standard to Protect Small Devices

NIST – The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has finalized its lightweight cryptography standard, providing crucial cybersecurity protections for small, networked electronic devices. Released as Ascon-Based Lightweight Cryptography Standards for Constrained Devices, this standard encompasses tools that secure information created and transmitted by billions of devices across the Internet of Things (IoT) and other miniature technologies. These devices often lack the computational resources found in larger computers or smartphones, making them more vulnerable to cyberattacks.
