Less than Half of Federal Agencies Have Met Identity Management Rules
A new report by software company One Identity says that only 41 percent of government agencies it contacted – including civilian, defense, and intelligence – have met the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s guidelines for identity and access management.
Another 49 percent of those surveyed said that they are making progress, but 10 percent said their agency has either taken no steps to meet the access management rules, or simply do not plan on meeting the guidelines.
The Department of Defense has been trying in recent years to address identity management issues. DARPA has created an “active authentication program” that “seeks to develop novel ways of validating the identity of computer users by focusing on the unique aspects of individuals through software-based biometrics.”
