Health and Human Services Will Lay Off 10,000 Workers and Close Agencies in a Major Restructuring
Associated Press – In a major overhaul, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will lay off 10,000 workers and shut down entire agencies, including those overseeing billions for addiction services and community health. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. criticized HHS as an inefficient “sprawling bureaucracy” and promised to do more with less. However, public health experts and current employees are concerned about the impacts these cuts may have on health services across the country.
