FAR Amended to Revise Definition of Commercial Item

The FAR Council has issued a final rule to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation to implement a section of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018 to revise the definition of a ‘‘commercial item.’’ The rule broadens the definition to allow certain additional items developed exclusively at private expense to qualify for the benefits associated with being treated as a commercial item.
