FAQs on ZTE’s Compliance Settlement
A new post on Radical Compliance takes a detailed look at the Department of Commerce’s settlement with Chinese telecom ZTE, which resolved the government’s imposition of sanctions barring ZTE from buying U.S.-made IT hardware and software for use in its products. Under the terms of the agreement, ZTE will allow the U.S. to embed compliance monitors who will oversee the firm’s compliance with international sanctions. ZTE was accused of dealing with Iran and North Korea in violation of international sanctions, and then more recently of failing to adhere to a previous agreement that allowed the firm to avoid sanctions for the misconduct.
