Experts Have High Demands for Biden’s Cyber Approach

Officials and analysts are urging the Biden administration to be more aggressive than its predecessors in dealing with cyber threats from adversaries such as Russia and China as well as non-state actors. A report by the Aspen Institute offered a scathing critique of the current U.S. posture, suggesting that “[n]umerous adversaries, whether nation-states or cybercriminals, can attack consumers, businesses and government agencies with relative impunity.”

Experts suggest a number of steps to improve the nation’s cybersecurity regime, including better information sharing and situational awareness, a federal disclosure law, doing a better job of warning and advising the private sector about threats, bolster interagency cooperation, more layered defenses, being more aggressive in pushing back against cyber attackers, attracting more and better cyber talent, and leveraging artificial intelligence.
