DOJ Increasing Resources for Corporate Crimes Affecting National Security

Wall Street Journal – DOJ’s National Security Division has its first chief counsel for corporate enforcement and is hiring 25 prosecutors.

U.S. prosecutors are increasingly focusing their attention on investigating corporate crimes that have national security implications. The hiring of former federal prosecutor Ian Richardson as the National Security Division’s first chief counsel for corporate enforcement is one indicator of this, along with beginning to hire 25 new prosecutors focused on sanctions evasion, export control violations, and money laundering. Following up on deputy attorney general Lisa Monaco drawing parallels between sanctions enforcement and FCPA enforcement, this division will work the DOJ’s criminal division and U.S. attorneys, explains principal associate deputy attorney general Marshall Miller.
