Bill Would Prioritize Federal Migration to Quantum-Resistant Encryption
The recently proposed Quantum Cybersecurity Preparedness Act would give agencies a year to begin migration to quantum-resistant encryption, recognizing that the transition will take significant funding and planning. One of the concerns is that data exfiltrated today might be resistant to current decryption technology, but become vulnerable to quantum computers that are expected in a decade or less. The bill would give OMB a year to turn NIST’s upcoming quantum-resistant cryptography standards into prioritized action plans.
