Back to the Protecting Human Lives in Global Health Assistance Policy

One certainty we can expect with the new Trump Administration is the quick reinstating of the Mexico City policy, known now as “Protecting Human Lives in Global Health Assistance,” (PLGHA) or as critics refer to it, the “Global Gag Rule.” The previous Trump Administration issued the PLGHA on January 23 2017 which extended the Mexico City policy prohibiting performing or promoting abortion as a method of family planning by non-U.S. NGOs to all U.S. federal funding. The re-imposed policy will also prohibit non-U.S. NGO recipients from providing financial support to other entities that perform or promote abortion as a method of family planning.
