Australia: Whistleblowing and Foreign Bribery Bills introduced into Senate
Two bills introduced in the Australian Senate address corporate crime and whistleblowing. The Crimes Legislation Amendment (Combating Corporate Crime) Bill 2017 introduces corporate criminal liability for foreign bribery, unless a firm can demonstrate it ha an adequate compliance program in place to prevent such activity. The Treasury Laws Amendment (Enhancing Whistleblower Protections) Bill 2017 would address how whistleblowers would be permitted to make anonymous reports and be protected from retaliation under the new compliance regime.
