South Sudan Imposing Levy on Aid Trucks and Peacekeepers to Fund the Government

Meanwhile, South Sudan is facing a catastrophic economic collapse in addition to its dire humanitarian crisis as it continues to deal with devastating floods, a fall-off in oil prices, and a collapsing currency. The country has been unable to pay civil servants for a year and soldiers are marauding around the countryside looking for food. In response, Sudan is now taxing aid trucks $300 as they enter and depart the landlocked country. UN Peacekeepers are also being taxed, preventing them from operating within the country and protecting IDP camps.
