Cutbacks at Save The Children and International Rescue Committee

Announcements of cutbacks at Save the Children (STC) and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) come amid sector-wide concerns about inflation, rising costs, and funding shortfalls.

• In a story originally published in the New Humanitarian by Jacob Goldberg and Will Worley, STC expects a $15-20 million shortfall that will entail the loss of an estimated 500 employees out of 1,700 at their headquarters and regional offices. Country programs are not affected.
• The New Humanitarian also published an article by Rob Merrick that IRC is experiencing a $50 million shortfall, resulting in a 10% loss of staff funded by unrestricted revenue (i.e., private contributions with no strings attached).
