New Defense Department Cyber Workforce Strategy Coming in Early 2023

The Department of Defense plans to release a new cybersecurity workforce strategy in the next four to six weeks, according to DoD CIO John Sherman. The strategy will build on existing initiatives such as the Cyber Excepted Service program, and also add what Sherman calls “the hard blocking and tackling kind of stuff we need to do that’s not glamorous, that makes sure that we have the knowledge we need to manage this very modern workforce.” Nothing the importance of the people operating the technology, Sherman hopes that the current challenges will inspire the workforce in the same way that the Space Race motivated technical talent in the 1950s and 1960s.
