Biden Tasks DHS With Response to Russia-Ukraine Threats
President Joe Biden has designated the Department of Homeland Security the lead federal agency for the administration’s preparedness and response efforts related to the crisis in Ukraine. According to a press release issued Friday, DHS has established a Unified Coordination Group that pulls officials from across the government to develop and implement strategic objectives and priorities and to coordinate with other federal, state, and local officials in support of those objectives.
DHS identified no specific threats to the U.S., but cited a general need for the country to be on high alert for cyber attacks originating from Russia, given the recent spate of sanctions levied against the country after its invasion of neighboring Ukraine. The latter country has been hit by repeated cyberattacks in recent days.
