IRS Resists GAO Recommendation to Improve Cybersecurity of Tax Preparers

For two years, the Government Accountability Office has recommended that the Internal Revenue Service require better data security from third-party tax preparers, but the IRS says that even though it would like to, it doesn't have the statutory authority.
