FCC Considering Additional Measures to Exclude Use of Blacklisted Tech from China
The FCC is looking to take proactive steps to secure the supply chain of U.S. networks, by applying more scrutiny to products from IT vendors linked to the Chinese government. Although the commission has prohibited spending federal money on items from these sources, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr wants to revoke FCC approval for them to prevent them from being purchased with other funds. Acting FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel is considering moves in that direction.
Federal cybersecurity agencies, meanwhile, are working with industry partners to mitigate the risk of cyber vulnerabilities, by flagging compromised hardware and software in their supply chains. CISA and NIST have released a new resource to help vendors identify and mitigate risks associated with software supply chains, by applying risk management and software development frameworks.
