Biden Administration Plans Executive Order on Infrastructure Control Systems Security

The Biden administration is planning an executive order focused on cybersecurity of the industrial control systems for utilities such as water treatment and energy delivery, to be issues in connection with a summer “sprint” scheduled by the Department of Homeland Security. “Today, we cannot trust those systems because we don’t have the visibility into those systems,” said Anne Neuberger, the cybersecurity lead on the National Security Council. “And we need the visibility of those systems because of the significant consequences if they fail, or if they’re degraded.” Neuberger said the order will be “aggressive, but achievable.”
