Biden Asserts “Urgent Initiative” for Cybersecurity
President Biden says that his administration is launching an “urgent initiative” to improve the nation’s cybersecurity, pointing to recent efforts by Russia and China as motivating factors. As an example, Biden cited the creation of the new position of Deputy National Security Adviser for Cyber and Emerging Technology, to which he has appointed Anne Neuberger, the former director of the National Security Agency’s Cybersecurity Directorate. Biden also included more than $10 billion in cybersecurity and information technology funds as part of his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 recovery proposal, describing the nation’s cybersecurity as a “crisis.”
