DOJ Efforts to Weaken Encryption Place National Security at Risk, Congressman Says

Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) warns that politicians who suggest technology companies should give law enforcement agencies access to encrypted data that it is a power grab, and that legislation to give them such access isn’t worth whatever benefits it might have. He observes that government typically already has the ability to overcome encryption when needed, and he argues that corporations and government already have too much power over individuals, and weakening encryption would exacerbate that problem. DoD CIO Dana Deasy has said that encryption to protect U.S. troops’ communications from prying eyes and adversaries is a defense imperative.
