The U.S. Government Issues Superseding Indictment Against Chinese Telecom Giant Huawei
A grand jury in the Eastern District of New York handed down a superseding indictment against Huawei Technologies on Thursday. The China-based telecom giant had previously been charged in January 2019 for theft of trade secrets, attempted theft of trade secrets, wire fraud and obstruction of justice regarding the company’s alleged theft of trade secrets from T-Mobile.
The superseding indictment adds three additional charges: violation of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. § 1705(a), 1705(c) and 1702; and 18 U.S.C. § 2 and 3551); conspiracy to launder money (18 U.S.C. § 1956(h) and 3551); and conspiracy to obstruct justice (18 U.S.C. § 1512(k) and 3551).
