Cyber EO Won’t Solve Botnet Problems In Near Term

The recent cybersecurity executive order tasked the Departments of Commerce and Homeland Security with leading an effort to reduce the threat of botnets and distributed denial of services attacks, but experts on the team say a solution will be long coming. According to Kevin Stine, chief of NIST's Applied Cybersecurity Division, the panel's goal is to develop a series of recommendations "that will contribute to…a roadmap–some potentially short-term, mid-term, long-term actions that can be taken." Currently, the team is meeting with stakeholders and gathering input from a request for information about current efforts to thwart botnets and DDoS attacks.
